'H.E Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam paid an unscheduled visit to the Sani Abatcha Specialist Hospital, Damaturu around 9.00PM this evening to directly interact with hospital staff, patients and patient relatives and see for himself the state of service delivery there.

'The governor started with the Accident and Emergency Unit, then moved to the labour and padeatric wards; female medical ward, infectious diseases ward, and then visited the male medical and surgical wards.

'H.E Gov. Gaidam talked to patients and their relatives and wished them quick recovery.

'The governor expressed appreciation that doctors on call and nurses on duty were at their duty posts. He was also glad that generator-powered electricity supply was good in the hospital as was the state of hygiene.

'The governor learnt, however, that there is water scarcity in the hospital as some of the boreholes were not functioning very well. He also learnt that there is shortage of beds and beddings because following the construction of 13 new ward and departmental buildings by his administration, the contractor who was mandated to supply new hospital beds had failed to deliver.

'H.E Gov. Gaidam therefore asked for the Commissioner of Health Dr. Bello Kawuwa and directed him to liaise with the Water Resources Ministry for the boreholes to be immediately reactivated.

'He also asked for details about alternative sourcing of new hospital beds and asked the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali, who was with him during the visit, to work with the Health Commissioner and other officials concerned to ensure that up to 200 new hospital beds are supplied and installed in the hospital.

'Governor Gaidam also directed his Director of Protocol and Logistics, Zanna Ali Ibrahim to immediately transfer up to 50 new chairs from the Government House Public Events Hall to be used as patient relatives chairs in the labour, female medical and paediatrics wards.
