PDP clears 39 for state congress

Screening committee of People's Democratic Party, PDP, for Adamawa State congress has cleared 39 aspirants who will compete for elective positions.

The exercise is going to hold on October 16 in Adamawa State.

Muhammad Bakari Muhammad, media aide to Umaru Fintiri, Governor of Adamawa State in a statement on Monday said the five-man committee conducted the exercise on Monday at the state party secretariat in Yola, according to the PDP's principles and guidelines.

Mamu Alhaji Mohammed, who is the chairman of the committee said shortly after the screening that all of the aspirants present were found to be eligible to run for the PDP state executive council.

According to him, the exercise was rancour-free and successful because the committee followed all of the established guidelines enshrined in the party constitution during the screening.

He praised the calibre of the candidates who, according to him, ‘included retired high-ranking civil servants and technocrats, as well as prominent figures.'

The chairman also thanked the outgoing officials for their service to the party and expressed confidence that the new crop of leaders will lead the party to greater heights.

In his remarks, Barrister Tahir Shehu, the state chairman of the party who spoke on behalf of the aspirants thanked the screening committee for their dedication to the success of the national assignment.
