Forty-seven people have been arrested allegedly for consumption of beer and other immoral acts in Jigawa State.
They were arrested by the State Hisbah Board, at beer parlors, brothels and other black spots in series of operations across the 11 local governments of the state.
Mal. Ibrahim Dahiru, the Hisbah commandant in the state confirmed the arrest on Wednesday, Thisday Newspaper reported.
According to him, of the 47 people arrested, 16 are female, suspected to be commercial sex workers.
He explained that all suspects were handed over to the police for further action.
He noted that during the operations, 745 bottles of assorted alcoholic drinks were also confiscated.
He stated that the consumption of alcohol remained prohibited in the state, while reiterating the resolve of the board to continue to fight against all forms of immoral acts.
He called on the people particularly the youth, to desist from engaging in vices and immoral acts capable of destroying their future.
The commandant commended residents of the state for their support and co-operation to the board to enable it to carry out its duties effectively.
