Festus Keyamo, minister of state for labor and employment, has revealed that the federal government is yet to disburse the N7.3 billion for Special Public Works, SPW.

The funds are for the remaining beneficiaries of the program.

The minister disclosed this on Monday during the 2022 budget defense by the senate committee on labor and employment for ministries, departments and agencies, MDAs, held in Abuja.

He said the government would ensure the disbursement of the funds before the end of the year, noting that the delay was due to bank processes.

Keyamo clarified that they insisted on certain banks because of the auditing process, adding that the ministry has now opened up the process for beneficiaries to access it through any bank of their choice.

SPW, a program that aims to address the problem of unemployment at grassroot level across the country, was introduced in October 2019, but was domiciled in the National Directorate of Employment, NDE.

The program has a win-win objectives as it also seeks to engage idle youths and make them more useful to themselves and the state.

SPW beneficiaries are to be paid N20, 000 monthly for three months and a target of 774,000 enrollees.
