In an effort to ensure quality education, Kaduna State Government said it has commenced competency test for 35, 000 primary school teachers.

This is not the first time the state is holding competency test for the teachers.

It was started by the administration of Governor Nasir El-rufai in 2017.

In the last exercise, over 22, 000 unqualified teachers have discovered and disengaged.

Even though he had later recruited 25, 000 qualified teachers as replacement, the Nigerian Labour Congress in the state kicked against the exercise.

Speaking during the commencement of the test, Tijjani Abdullah, chairman of the state universal basic education board said this time around the exercise is not geared towards disengaging teachers.

'The purpose of the competency test is not to sack any teacher but to identify gaps in the subject areas for the purpose of training and retraining the teachers.

'The teachers that are here will see the difference in the approach of the testing,' Mr. Abdullahi told Channels Television on Tuesday.

The teachers are expected to answer ten questions per subject in English Language, Mathematics, Social Studies and Basic Science.
