Unknown gunmen abduct over 70 in Kaduna

Unknown gunmen on Wednesday abducted over 70 travelers along Kaduna – Birnin Gwari Road.

The incident occurred around Udawa, a village in Chikun Local Government of Kaduna.

Channel Television reported that the victims were mainly traders.

Their vehicles were intercepted by the kidnapers in the morning hours.

However, while responding, the Kaduna State Police Command said about 48 of the victims have been rescued.

Mohammed Jalige, spokesman of the command who confirmed this said they were rescued by operatives of the Buruku Divisional Police Station.

He explained that the operatives had been escorting passengers along the road when they were also attacked by the gunmen.

Before the rescue, he noted that there was a crossfire between the operatives and the gunmen.

‘The police operatives successfully repelled the attack through superior firepower before rescuing 48 of the passengers.

‘There was no casualty on the part of the police operatives and the attackers, adding that the rescued victims were in good health and later continued their journey,’ the command said.

Appeal for support

Conflict Reporting is dangerous and risky. Our reporters constantly face life-threatening challenges, sometimes surviving ambushes, kidnap attempts and attacks by the whiskers as they travel and go into communities to get authentic and firsthand information. But we dare it every day, nonetheless, in order to keep you informed of the true situation of the victims, the trends in the conflicts and ultimately help in peace building processes. But these come at huge cost to us. We are therefore appealing to you to help our cause by donating to us through any of the following means. You can also donate working tools, which are even more primary to our work. We thank you sincerely as you help our cause.
