Nigeria vs Ghana: Govt, politicians splash on free tickets for Nigerian fans

All is set for the big clash between Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Black Stars of Ghana in the all-important Qatar 2022 World Cup qualification play-offs.

The winner of the clash will secure a place in the forthcoming World Cup.

The match is scheduled to hold on Tuesday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

In this regard, the Nigerian football managers plan to provide massive 60, 000 crowd to cheer and support the national team, after a goalless draw in last week Saturday's encounter in Kumasi, Ghana.

The move was however challenged by the visitors, citing security and safety reasons.

Regardless of the complaints, the Confederation of African Football approved of it.

Nigeria's ministry of youth and sports development and the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, jointly thus bought 20, 000 tickets to the fans and provided free buses to transport them to the venue.

The Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation, a foundation owned by Orji Kalu, a politician and former governor of Abia State, now chief whip of the senate, has also purchased 5, 000 tickets for the Eagle's fans.

The government disclosed that the purchase in a statement by the sports ministry.

'Find a bus close to you and get a ticket while boarding the bus,' the sports' ministry said.

According to a post by Sen. Kalu on his social media handles, his tickets will be distributed at the entrance of the stadium before the match at 3:00 pm.

'As African Pillar of Sports , I look forward to the Eagles putting smiles on our faces by winning the match,' Sen. Kalu said.

Similarly, an unverified rumors going round on social media indicated that the Ghanian embassy in Nigeria is also providing free tickets to Ghanians in the country to support the team.

The match will kickoff at 6:30 pm Nigerian time.
