Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force have rescued 41 persons in the ongoing Operation Lake Sanity on Monday.

YERWA EXPRESS NEWS learned from a top military source that the clearance operation, launched along Wulgo Town (in Ngala Local Government Area) and Marte Local Government Area in northern Borno, was jointly carried out by Cameroonian and Nigerian troops under the MNJTF.

'The clearance operations started in Wulgo, and areas so far cleared in the last 3 days are Cemente, Bagadaza and Zanari among others.

'The troops then entered harbor.'

Our source explained that the troops had two encounters with the Boko Haram / ISWAP terrorists during operations--'at Zanari and also at the harbour area.

'Both attacks were decisively dealt with,' we were told.

In the encounters, the terrorists lost two of their members.

They also lost two gun trucks, 22 bicycles and 18 motorcycles.

Others are two rocket propelled grenade tubes, three rocket propelled grenade bombs and two general purpose machine guns, among others.

Of the 41 people rescued, 21 are women, 11 male children and 9 female children who are all returned to Gomboru, a major commercial town in Ngala, now fast recovering from destructions it had suffered as a result of the crisis in 2014 and 2015.

During the operation, three soldiers paid the supreme price.

They died from improvised explosive devices detonated by the terrorists.
