Troops have repelled an attempt by suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists to overran a military formation in Molai this evening.

Molai is an outskirt community located along Maiduguri - Damboa Road.

According to sources, the terrorists launched the attack at about 5:00 pm.

They engaged troops in a heated gunbattle for at least an hour until reinforcements both land and air joined the defense.

They were eventually pushed out of the town thanks to the reinforcements.

They however 'burnt four military vehicles and carted away with one,' our sources said.

The terrorists seemed to have obtained information about troops movement into the general area, a security source who spoke to us suspected.

The source believed that the attack must have stemmed from that, adding that it is a likely attempt to destabilize any possible military operation in the area.

'They must have had sources that informed them of our movement because some of our people... have gone to Damboa.

'But right now, air force is after them,' the source said.

Our sources confirmed that the terrorists have been chased out of the community and are being pursued by fighter jets.

They are currently under intense military onslaught in the area, extending from Damboa down to Sambisa Forest and the Mandara Mountains, which take the form of Operation Desert Sanity.

Under the operation, many of their camps in the Sambisa Forest have been effectively cleared.
