The National Working Committee of All Progressive Congress are reportedly divided over the position of the party regarding who will succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

The division came after Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, chairman of the party announced Sen. Ahmed Lawan, one of the 13 successfully screened presidential aspirants of the party to the committee as the consensus candidate of the party.

Sen. Adamu who made this announcement on Monday in Abuja ahead of preparation of the party’s presidential primary election which is to fully commence tomorrow.

Some members of the committee reportedly kicked against the move and insisted that other aspirants must also be given the opportunity to try their luck.

They argued that aspirants like Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and Engr. David Umahi, among others, must be allowed to contest in tomorrow's primary election to be held at Abuja Eagle Square.

Meanwhile, the northern governors have also kicked against the choice of the party, and instead, endorsed power to be shifted to the south – meaning the candidate must be from the south not Sen. Lawan who comes from the North.

This is coming shortly after the governors met with President Muhammadu Buhari who also assured them that he does not have any anointed candidate while urging them to opt for consensus in choosing the candidate.

It is reported that the governors have scheduled another meeting among themselves to start around 5pm.

YERWA EXPRESS NEWS is yet to receive any update on the meeting.

However, it can be reported that some of the aspirants have also started to react to the party's decision.

Tinubu, one of the strong aspirants from the south is the first to describe the position of the party as illegal.

'While the National Chairman is yet to deny or offer any clarification on the alleged declaration, it is necessary to state that such a declaration is a legal impossibility,' Mr. Tinubu said.

Earlier, YERWA EXPRESS NEWS reported that Lawan vowed to remain as presidential aspirant of All Progressive Congress until consensus is reached.
