The federal government of Nigeria has secured the release of all the 23 remaining captives of the Abuja - Kaduna train attack in March this year.

The rescue was spearheaded by a presidential committee led by General Lucky Irabor, the chief of defense staff.

A statement by Prof. Usman Yusuf, the seven-man committee's secretary this evening confirmed the development.

Yusuf said the rescue plan was conceived and closely guided by the Gen. Irabor, 'from start to finish', with support from other relevant agencies of government and security establishments.

The victims, who are therefore the last batch of the terrorists' captives to be released, are, according to Yusuf, in the custody of the government.

Boko Haram attacked the train boarded with several passengers seven months ago. As part of the attack, they took away 60 persons as captives.

Appeal for support

Conflict Reporting is dangerous and risky. Our reporters constantly face life-threatening challenges, sometimes surviving ambushes, kidnap attempts and attacks by the whiskers as they travel and go into communities to get authentic and firsthand information. But we dare it every day, nonetheless, in order to keep you informed of the true situation of the victims, the trends in the conflicts and ultimately help in peace building processes. But these come at huge cost to us. We are therefore appealing to you to help our cause by donating to us through any of the following means.
