The family of a late educationist and community leader, Malam Balarabe Goronyo has donated 2,000 exercise books to orphans and other vulnerable children in Sokoto.
The benefiting children were drawn from Gidadawa, Galadanchi, Kofar Bai, Kofar Rini and other adjoining communities domiciled in Sokoto city.
The gesture was extended to the beneficiaries under the aegis of the late Malam Balarabe Goronyo’s Foundation.
The foundation is a non profit initiative aimed at improving the living standard of the less privileged members of the society.
The foundation routinely assists the indigent members of the society in myriad ways like donation of learning and teaching materials, as well as sponsorship of free medical outreaches, among others.
The donor of the latest gesture under the foundation, Alhaji Zayyanu Aliyu said in a statement in Abuja on Thursday that it was aimed at bolstering the development of the education sector.
He said,” the gesture was extended to the children to complement the efforts of the government in funding education at all levels.
“Education is the best legacy one can bequeath on the children with a view to fully equipping them to diligently play their future leadership roles in the state, Nigeria and the world at large.
”There is nothing more valuable that you can empower the children with than education.”
Aliyu therefore appealed to old students and other wealthy individuals and families to imbibe the habit of extending their widow’s to their old schools and other less endowed members of the society.
It would be recalled that the foundation had in the last two years donated no fewer than 10,000 exercise and textbooks, as well as 300 sets of school uniforms to orphans, vulnerable children and pupils of some primary schools.
The benefiting pupils were those of Aliyu’s alma mater, Waziri Model primary school, Kofar-Rini, Sokoto, as well as Waziri Gidado Nizzamiya school, Gidadawa, Sokoto, among others.

Conflict Reporting is dangerous and risky. Our reporters constantly face life-threatening challenges, sometimes surviving ambushes, kidnap attempts and attacks by the whiskers as they travel and go into communities to get authentic and firsthand information. But we dare it every day, nonetheless, in order to keep you informed of the true situation of the victims, the trends in the conflicts and ultimately help in peace building processes. But these come at huge cost to us. We are therefore appealing to you to help our cause by donating to us through any of the following means. You can also donate working tools, which are even more primary to our work. We thank you sincerely as you help our cause.
