Troops of the Nigerian Army in a joint operation with the Civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF have repelled an attack by gunmen on Gamboru Ngala Local Government Area of Borno.

YERWA EXPRESS NEWS gathered that the gunmen are believed to be members of Islamic State of West African Province, ISWAP, a faction of Boko Haram.

They tried to invade the town through different locations with an unidentified number of motorbikes.

A member of CJTF who confirmed this to our reporter said the attack occurred on Wednesday around 9:30 am, causing panic in the community.

'They attacked with sophisticated weapons including bombs and AK47 rifles, they looted foodstuffs and other valuables.

'On their escape route they got stuck in a clay sand which helped our deployed troops to force them to flee and abandon their weapons and motorbikes,' the source said.

He noted that as a result of the firepower of the troops, the terrorists took to their heels, abandoning 12 motorbikes and undisclosed number of rifles.

Appeal for support

Conflict Reporting is dangerous and risky. Our reporters constantly face life-threatening challenges, sometimes surviving ambushes, kidnap attempts and attacks by the whiskers as they travel and go into communities to get authentic and firsthand information. But we dare it every day, nonetheless, in order to keep you informed of the true situation of the victims, the trends in the conflicts and ultimately help in peace building processes. But these come at huge cost to us. We are therefore appealing to you to help our cause by donating to us through any of the following means.
