Workers of Taraba State House of Assembly have gone for an indefinite strike over non-payment of outfit allowance.

The decision by the workers was after the expiration of two ultimatums spanning a period of, first 24 days and subsequently seven days to the government.

Under the umbrella of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, PASAN, its leaders announced the development in a statement on Monday, jointly signed by Ibrahim Bala Yusuf, the state chairman and Abdullahi Abubakar, the secretary.

The statement said the union is embarking on the strike over non-payment of outfit allowance of its members by the state government, adding that it would have been avoided if a listening ear was given to them.

'Sequel to the expiration of the seven - day ultimatum issued to the leadership of this Assembly on issues that borders on the outfit allowance of the staff of this Assembly, the leadership of this famous union has no option than to direct members of this union to stay away from work from Monday, November 7, 2022,' the leadership said.

The leadership also threatened to make it impossible for the state government to achieve its plan of presenting the 2023 budget this week.

It said no staff would be allowed into the premises of the assembly, vowing not to suspend the strike pending when their demands are addressed.
