President Muhammadu Buhari has on Monday presented an award to Tony O. Elumelu, the founder of Tony Elumelu Foundation, TEF.

The award, which was presented at the 2022 Chief of Army Staff Conference, was in recognition of TEF's economic empowerment to the wives of slain soldiers, who lost their lives while on duty to serve and protect the nation.

The awards were also conferred on other persons for various support rendered to the Nigerian Army.

The widows of slain soldiers receive both training and non-refundable seed funding of $2, 000 each.

Over the years, Elumelu's foundation has empowered thousands of entrepreneurs and businesses across Africa with not just startup funding but training and mentorship to spur a continent-wide economic transformation.

Receiving the award, the philanthropist and business tycoon reiterated his commitment to supporting the Nigerian Army as well as democratizing luck and creating economic opportunities for entrepreneurs.

So far, 15, 847 young African entrepreneurs have been empowered across the 54 countries of Africa through the foundation.

Appeal for support

Conflict Reporting is dangerous and risky. Our reporters constantly face life-threatening challenges, sometimes surviving ambushes, kidnap attempts and attacks by the whiskers as they travel and go into communities to get authentic and firsthand information. But we dare it every day, nonetheless, in order to keep you informed of the true situation of the victims, the trends in the conflicts and ultimately help in peace building processes. But these come at huge cost to us. We are therefore appealing to you to help our cause by donating to us through any of the following means. You can also donate working tools, which are even more primary to our work. We thank you sincerely as you help our cause.
