Revelry as Nigerian Army celebrates WASA2022

The Nigerian Army has gone almost 'whacko' in revelry, in order to celebrate the End of Year West African Social Activity, WASA.

Historically, WASA is a annual social event of the Allied Forces during the Second World War.

Now inherited by the Nigerian Army, the event offers officers, men and families of the military an opportunity to interact and socialise in a relaxed atmosphere at the end of every year, thereby enhancing social interactions across the ranks.

This year's event which took place at Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, and was organised by the Operation Hadin Kai Theatre Command and Headquarters of 7 Division of the Nigerian Army.

Part of the event was to showcase variety of cultural wares and items, among others, ultimately to forge cultural exchanges and understanding.

In his opening remarks, Major General CG Musa, the theatre commander Operation Hadin Kai said the year 2022 was a challenging one, but nonetheless with unprecedented successes.

He said 'the West African Social Activities WASA is a tradition upheld by the Nigerian Army, and is a social function inherited from the colonial era (during) the Second World War.

'The event brings officers, solders, family and community members to celebrate and socialise.'

Several senior officers from the army, navy, air force and police, among other security agencies were in attendance.

The event was also attended by many dignitaries, including Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum who is represented by Barr Malam Fannami the Governor head of service, and HRH Alhaji Abubakar Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi, the Shehu of Borno who is also represented.
