A breakthrough has been achieved in the ongoing Operation Lake Sanity II, as a commander of the Islamic West African Province a faction of Boko Haram terrorist has surrendered to the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in Lake Chad.
Adamu Muhammad, the terrorist commander, and five other fighters surrendered to Sector 3 of the MNJTF in Monguno, bringing the total number of surrendered terrorists to 119 since the operation began on April 23, 2024.
According to Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, spokesman for the MNJTF, the surrendered terrorists escaped from the ISWAP faction hideout in Jubillaram, located in Lake Chad.
The commander, Adamu Muhammad, has been involved in terrorist attacks in the region, including attacks in Kangarwa, Alagarno, Doro Naira, and Dogon Chikku in Kukawa Local Government Area, Borno State, Nigeria.
During their surrender, the terrorists handed over rounds of ammunition and a warhead.
The other surrendered fighters include Isah Ali, 18; Hassan Modu, 18; Nasir Idris, 23; Abba Aji, 21; and Abubakar Isah, 20.
The surrendered fighters are undergoing investigation.
The MNJTF has appealed to other terrorists to surrender, lay down their arms, and embrace peace.
The operation's success is an achievement in the quest to ensure a secure environment in the Lake Chad Basin region.
