Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II has been reinstated as the Emir of Kano following the Kano State House of Assembly's resolution to dethrone the current Emir and dismantle the four new Emirates in the State established under a controversial 2019 law.

The reinstatement comes after the repeal of the 2019 law that created the new Emirates and led to Sanusi's ousting.

All district heads elevated or appointed under the repealed law are to revert to their previous positions, according to the assembly resolution.

Although Sanusi's reinstatement has not been officially announced, sources claim that he is expected in Kano on Friday.

The bill seeking Sanusi's reinstatement has passed the third reading and is currently awaiting the governor's endorsement to make it effective.

The then restructuring of the Kano Emirate, which ousted Sanusi from the throne, is seen as a political manoeuvre to diminish the influence of then Emir Sanusi II, a vocal critic of the former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje administration.
