The Governor of Borno Statehas launched the sale of 100 procured trucks of fertilizers to farmers at a subsidized rate in the state.
Speaking at the launching ceremony held at the state farm center in Maiduguri, the acting governor, Umar Usman Kadafur, said the intervention was a part of the government's commitment to agriculture, aiming to improve productivity and food sufficiency in the state.
According to him, the fertilizer will be sold at 50% discount.
He also warned the distribution committee against diversion and mismanagement.
'Today, as we distribute these fertilizers, we are not just providing essential nutrients for the soil, but we are investing in the future of our agricultural sector and the prosperity of our state and the nation in general.
'It is imperative to note that the Borno State Government has given topmost priority to the development of agriculture in the state. Hence, the concerted efforts to mobilize both human and material resources to develop the agricultural sector in the state,' Kadafur said.
He called on farmers in the state to utilize them wisely and efficiently to harness the potential of the state's vast arable land and increase productivity to ensure food security.
He also charged the distribution committee to ensure promptness, fairness, and effectiveness in the distribution process.
