Just a few weeks after reconnection to the national grid, Borno State faces renewed darkness as Boko Haram terrorists struck again and destroyed two transmission towers.
The attack happened on Tuesday night, along Auno, a town under the Konduga Local Government Area and located on Maiduguri - Damaturu Road.
This attack comes some weeks after the Borno and Yobe state governments proposed solutions to address the recurring vandalism.
Their proposals included Qur'anic recitation and animal sacrifices, calling those in connection to the vandalism to stay away from committing such crimes.
Sources from the military and CJTF stationed along the highway confirmed the incident occurred around 9:30 pm Tuesday.
'Loud explosion, commotion near Yanayakiri village before the tower fell,' reported a resident of Auno, a nearby village.
A CJTF member said the targeted village is three kilometres from Auno in Konduga Local Government Area.
'Heard three explosions, when we visited the place today, we found out that two electric towers were affected,' he added.
The attack follows the kidnapping of three travellers near Auno town.
The Nigerian military and security forces have not commented on the incident.
With the destroyed tower, residents of Borno State face power outages even though the government has since provided alternative power sources, the gas plants.
Conflict Reporting is dangerous and risky. Our reporters constantly face life-threatening challenges, sometimes surviving ambushes, kidnap attempts and attacks by the whiskers as they travel and go into communities to get authentic and firsthand information. But we dare it every day, nonetheless, in order to keep you informed of the true situation of the victims, the trends in the conflicts and ultimately help in peace building processes. But these come at huge cost to us. We are therefore appealing to you to help our cause by donating to us through any of the following means. You can also donate working tools, which are even more primary to our work. We thank you sincerely as you help our cause.
