Maj. Gen. Abdul Khalifah Ibrahim has been appointed Acting Corps Commander of the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps, assuming command following the appointment of Maj. Gen. OO Oluyede as acting Chief of Army Staff.

Tasked with addressing national security challenges, the Corps operates from its headquarters in Jaji, Kaduna State, and is pivotal in ground operations.

Prior to his current appointment, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim held the position of Deputy Director General of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons, NCCSALW, under the Office of the National Security Adviser in Abuja.

His expertise in strategic arms control was key in advancing the country’s security and counter-insurgency efforts.

With an extensive military career, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim brings a wealth of experience to his new role.

He holds a master’s degree in strategic studies from the University of Ibadan and has served in international peace support missions, including in Liberia and Sudan, where his strategic insights contributed to peacekeeping initiatives.

His leadership roles also include serving as the Force Commander of the Multi-National Joint Task Force, MNJTF, in the Lake Chad region and as the General Officer Commanding, GOC, of 7 Division in Maiduguri, a division central to counter-terrorism operations in Nigeria's northeast.

As the GOC, YEN NG has on several occasions reported operations where General Khalifa joined his troops to fight on the front line.

Also as the force commander, MNJTF, General Khalifa in synergy with General CG Musa, the present chief of defence staff; then theatre commander cleared major strongholds of Islamic States of West African Province, ISWAP, as well as Boko Haram Terrorists in Northern Borno; as over 100,000 surrendered laying down their arms.

The Nigerian Army’s Infantry Corps remains instrumental in securing national borders and engaging in peace operations, and Maj. Gen. Ibrahim’s appointment is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the Corps amid ongoing security challenges.

His record in both national and international operations underscores the Army’s commitment to enhancing defense capabilities and stability within Nigeria and beyond.
