Nigerian Army in a joint operation with the Civilian Joint Task Force CJTF have repelled a terrorist attack in Kaleri, near the University of Maiduguri in Jere Local Government Area, Borno State,

The attack happened on Wednesday night, resulting in the killing of one civilian after the confrontation.

The attack, which commenced around 2:00 AM, saw heavily armed terrorists attempt to infiltrate the town, firing indiscriminately and causing widespread panic among residents.

A source from the CJTF who confirmed the incident to our reporter said the security forces engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, lasting several hours and forcing them to retreat into the surrounding bush.

'They entered the town in numbers with sophisticated weapons, shooting sporadically, causing people into panic,' he said.

'We pushed them back to the bush, but unfortunately, we lost one small boy as a result of the shootout, and I cannot confirm the level of casualties at the moment.'

Residents corroborated the account, describing the intense gunfire and explosions that prompted them to flee their homes.

'We fled our homes with our children because of the heavy gunshots; they also used bomb explosions,' said Aisha, a mother of four, who sought refuge in a neighbouring community.

This paper last month reported how the terrorists attacked the same area, kidnapping two individuals and stealing foodstuff.

Further details will be provided as they become available to us, follow...

Conflict Reporting is dangerous and risky. Our reporters constantly face life-threatening challenges, sometimes surviving ambushes, kidnap attempts and attacks by the whiskers as they travel and go into communities to get authentic and firsthand information. But we dare it every day, nonetheless, in order to keep you informed of the true situation of the victims, the trends in the conflicts and ultimately help in peace building processes. But these come at huge cost to us. We are therefore appealing to you to help our cause by donating to us through any of the following means.
