Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, Governor of Borno, has commissioned eye and dental hospitals in Biu Local Governement Area.
The governor also commissioned a mega school in the locality, a statement from the governor's spokesman read.
In his remark during the commissioning on Tuesday, Gov. Zulum said the new eye hospital has a 40-bed capacity and is equipped with advanced diagnostic and surgical facilities to address the growing need for ophthalmological care in the southern region of the state.
The hospital will also provide treatment for cataracts, glaucoma, and other vision-related ailments.
The 30-bed capacity dental hospital, according to the governor, will offer comprehensive oral health services, ensuring that residents no longer have to travel long distances for dental care.
The governor also commissioned a mega secondary school at Miringa, a township of Biu.
The school was designed to accommodate over 1,300 students, with 60 classrooms, an ICT centre, and four laboratories, among other facilities, to enhance teaching and learning activities.
According to him, each enrolled student was also supported with textbooks, exercise books, uniforms, school sandals, and a bicycle.
Gov. Zulum also approved funds for the construction of new general hospitals in five local government areas, namely Askira Uba, Magumeri, Gubio, Mafa, and Dikwa to enhance health infrastructure and address manpower needs in healthcare centers.
