Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan (APC, Borno Central) has criticized Information Minister Mohammed Idris for dismissing Governor Babagana Zulum’s security concerns, urging him to focus on promoting President Bola Tinubu’s policies instead of politicizing insecurity.

Lawan, in a statement on Thursday, said the minister’s response to Zulum’s warning about rising Boko Haram attacks was "disrespectful and unhelpful."

The governor had raised alarms after insurgents overran military posts in Wulgo, Sabon Gari, and other areas.

The senator accused Idris of neglecting his duties, noting that past ministers like Lai Mohammed and Jerry Gana prioritized government messaging over disputes with state officials.

He also highlighted Zulum’s support for security agencies, including donating vehicles and housing.

Lawan challenged the minister to visit Borno for firsthand assessment before making further statements.

However, the ministry issued a statement in which it denied dismissing the governor’s comments.

It said the statement attributed to the minister was false.
