The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the termination of contract for Section 1 of the Kano–Maiduguri Road project and re-awarded it to Triacter Construction Company.

The newly awarded contract comes with a stipulated completion period of three years.

This was disclosed on Tuesday by Senator Suleiman Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South in the Senate, following a visit to the office of Engineer Dave Umahi, Minister of Works in Abuja.

He noted that the project will now receive the immediate and comprehensive attention it urgently requires.

'I am delighted to inform my constituents in Kano, the good people of Nigeria, and the general public that following my motion on the Kano–Maiduguri Road (Section One) presented on the 7th of May, 2024, the Federal Executive Council (FEC), under the leadership of Mr. President, has taken decisive action,' Sen. Sumaila wrote.

'The previous contract has been terminated and re-awarded to Triacter Construction Company,' he noted, adding that it will now cost N124 billion and will finish in three years.

'This section of the road, which has long been a death trap—causing frequent accidents, loss of lives, and persistent traffic congestion— will now receive the urgent attention it deserves.'

'This development marks a major step forward in our collective commitment to improving infrastructure, enhancing road safety, and delivering meaningful change to our people.'

Appeal for support

Conflict Reporting is dangerous and risky. Our reporters constantly face life-threatening challenges, sometimes surviving ambushes, kidnap attempts and attacks by the whiskers as they travel and go into communities to get authentic and firsthand information. But we dare it every day, nonetheless, in order to keep you informed of the true situation of the victims, the trends in the conflicts and ultimately help in peace building processes. But these come at huge cost to us. We are therefore appealing to you to help our cause by donating to us through any of the following means.
