Troops of Operation Hadin Kai in conjunction with members of the CJTF have uncovered a significant cache of improvised explosive devices, IEDs, emplaced by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on the strategic bridge linking Marte and Dikwa in Borno State.
According to the Nigerian Army, the discovery was made by explosive ordnance disposal, EOD, teams deployed from both Marte and Dikwa Forward Operating Bases during a targeted clearance operation.
'So far, a total of 56 fully prepared IEDs have been safely recovered from the location.
'Controlled procedures are currently underway to render the remaining devices safe for complete recovery and disposal,' the army report on it official Facebook page.
YERWA EXPRESS NEWS can confirm an attempt by some Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters to attack Fima, a location between Fatokol and Madina, a border with Wumbi village Kala Balge.
However, the operations was leaked resulting in troops overpowering and killing scores of the terrorists.
This success follows a surrender this week, where 210 Boko Haram/ISWAP members surrendered to troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force operating under Sector 2 in Bol, Baga Sola, a border town in Lake Chad.
Sources indicate that these surrenders are a result of a willingness among some terrorist leaders and fighters to end the insurgency.
They are reportedly exposing operational details and locations as they prepare to surrender to the government through the 'Operation Safe Corridor' program.
This development has reportedly sparked suspicion among the remaining leaders and fighters within the terrorist groups.
Military officials, when approached for comment, declined to elaborate on the internal dynamics of the terrorist groups, stating, 'Our duty is to save Nigerians and not comment or settle in-fighting of terrorists. What I will assure you is that we are receiving intelligence and will soon end the madness going in the North East.'
Conflict Reporting is dangerous and risky. Our reporters constantly face life-threatening challenges, sometimes surviving ambushes, kidnap attempts and attacks by the whiskers as they travel and go into communities to get authentic and firsthand information. But we dare it every day, nonetheless, in order to keep you informed of the true situation of the victims, the trends in the conflicts and ultimately help in peace building processes. But these come at huge cost to us. We are therefore appealing to you to help our cause by donating to us through any of the following means.
