The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has said the ruling party remains open to admitting the former presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.
Mr Yilwatda made the statement following the recent defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, from the NNPP to the APC, alongside several members of the State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives.
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV on Sunday, the APC chairman said the party was not currently in discussions with Mr Kwankwaso but would welcome him if he decided to join.
“Our doors are still open for Kwankwaso to join the APC. If he comes, he will be warmly received. Although, we are not in negotiations with him at the moment,” Mr Yilwatda said.
He also defended President Bola Tinubu’s frequent foreign trips, saying the President’s experience, exposure, and international connections enable him to achieve significant outcomes within a short time.
“Because of his experience, exposure, and connections, what he can accomplish in one day may take others several years to achieve,” he said.
Mr Yilwatda described the trips as sacrifices made in the national interest, explaining that President Tinubu travels abroad to attract foreign investment, negotiate bilateral agreements, and address security-related issues.
“For him to make such sacrifices for the country—travelling to attract investment, work on security, and negotiate agreements—should that be taken for granted?” he asked.
Conflict Reporting is dangerous and risky. Our reporters constantly face life-threatening challenges, sometimes surviving ambushes, kidnap attempts and attacks by the whiskers as they travel and go into communities to get authentic and firsthand information. But we dare it every day, nonetheless, in order to keep you informed of the true situation of the victims, the trends in the conflicts and ultimately help in peace building processes. But these come at huge cost to us. We are therefore appealing to you to help our cause by donating to us through any of the following means.
