Maiduguri, Nigeria - Boko Haram militants attacked a Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) post in Geidam, Yobe State, on Saturday night, killing one officer.
The officer, identified as Ahmed Usman Gombe, was reportedly killed while trying to cross the fence when the insurgents stormed the post.
Customs repels attack, mourns fallen hero
The NCS, in a press release issued on Saturday, said that the attack was thwarted with the timely reinforcement from the Nigerian Army.
Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, comptroller general of Customs, , expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family of ASC II Ahmed Usman, the NCS Borno/Yobe Area Command, and the Government of Gombe State for the loss of heroic and devoted individual in the line of duty.
He also commended the NCS officers and men for their bravery and resilience in defending the facility and safeguarding the lives of their colleagues and families.
The CGC Adeniyi also further emphasized the crucial role of community engagement in the shared pursuit of safety and security, urging all citizens to contribute to these collective endeavors actively.
The statement said the Customs Service stands strong, resolute, and united in ensuring the safety and security of the nation's borders.
Fallen officer
Assistant Superintendent of Customs II Ahmed Usman was born on April 2, 1983, and joined the NCS on February 24, 2009.
He is survived by his wife and five children.
The NCS mourns the loss of officer.
