Damboa, Nigeria - Damboa Monday Market has been reopened today after a ten-year closure due to Boko Haram insurgency.
Hon. Ali Mohammed Kauji, the chairman of Damboa Local Government, who presided over the reopening ceremony said, the market known for its size and convenience, allows customers to drive in, conduct business, and leave with ease.
According to a statement by his media team, since its relocation in 1999, the market has been a vital economic hub for Damboa and surrounding areas.
Prior to the insurgency, the market bustled with activity, attracting traders not only from Borno state but also neighboring Adamawa, Yobe, Gombe, and even Kano states.
He said weekly turnovers reportedly reached billions of naira.
However, Boko Haram activity severely disrupted interstate trade, ultimately leading to the market's closure.
Hon. Kauji highlighted the market's importance as a source of revenue for the local government.
He expressed optimism that the improved security situation will pave the way for the market to regain its past economic prominence and once again attract traders from across the region.
Earlier today, the chairman toured the market alongside, Alhaji Gana Fugu, deputy chairman, council leaders and other local government officials.
The reopening marks a significant step forward for Damboa's recovery and a promising sign for the region's economic future.

But we dare it every day, nonetheless, in order to keep you informed of the true situation of the victims, the trends in the conflicts and ultimately help in peace building processes. But these come at huge cost to us. We are therefore appealing to you to help our cause by donating to us through any of the following means.
