Following security improvements, officials have opened Kukawa Local Government for the resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

Kukawa is one of the 27 local governments of Borno that was largely under the control of Boko Haram insurgents for some years.

In a ceremony to flag off the resettlement on Sunday in Kukawa town, government officials, including the leadership of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), said the IDPs have already started resettling.

Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, spokesman of the MNJTF, in a press release said the security improvement in the area was instrumental to Operation Lake Sanity II led by the MNJTF.

He said the operation resulted in the elimination of high-risk terrorists and the recovery of arms and ammunition to make the place safe.

'Kukawa, a vital part of the Borno Emirate, is seen as a symbol of hope for the entire region as residents return to rebuild their lives and communities.

'Neighboring towns are also experiencing positive developments, indicating a broader trend of peace and reconciliation,' part of the statement read.

Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba also emphasized the ongoing commitment to ensuring lasting peace and prosperity for the region.

The flag-off ceremony was officially held on Sunday in Kukawa town and was attended by key figures, including Honourable Karta Maina, representing Kukawa Constituency, and local leaders Alhaji Abba Fugu and Alhaji Kachalla Mamman.

Conflict Reporting is dangerous and risky. Our reporters constantly face life-threatening challenges, sometimes surviving ambushes, kidnap attempts and attacks by the whiskers as they travel and go into communities to get authentic and firsthand information. But we dare it every day, nonetheless, in order to keep you informed of the true situation of the victims, the trends in the conflicts and ultimately help in peace building processes. But these come at huge cost to us. We are therefore appealing to you to help our cause by donating to us through any of the following means.
