Prof Babagana Umara Zulum, the Governor Borno State has commended the Nigerian military for their decisive defeat of Boko Haram insurgents in Kukawa and Monguno towns.

Prof. Usman Tar, Borno’s Commissioner of Information and Internal Security in a statement on Monday said the insurgents 'buoyed by their recent attack on Kareto, attempted to advance on Kukawa township but were repelled by the military.’

He said, the terrorists, riding motorcycles and armed with assault rifles and RPGs, attacked from the main Gudumbali axis gate but were met with fierce resistance from the military.

Working on actionable intelligence, the troops of 19 Brigade Cross Kauwa and 403 Amphibious Brigade Baga mobilized to counter the attack.

The Nigerian Air Force provided close air support, and the insurgents suffered significant casualties.

YERWA EXPRESS NEWS has earlier reported five terrorists have been eliminated from the operations.

While celebrating the military's success, Gov. Zulum acknowledged the sad loss of lives on the side of the military and civilians.

Two CJTF personnel were injured, four Nigerian Army personnel were killed, and one civilian, Masa Mallam Abba Zaraye, was struck by a stray bullet.

Gov Zulum conveyed his salutations to the military for success and thanked the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing strategic leadership for Nigerian Armed Forces.

The governor also cautioned the troops to remain vigilant and respond with decisive force in the event of retaliatory attacks.

The governor urged citizens to continue supporting the armed forces with actionable intelligence to counter the collective threats.
