A total of 94,747 vulnerable individuals have been enrolled for free primary and secondary healthcare services in Borno State, under the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF).

The beneficiaries include 14,944 aged persons, 14,786 poor people, 4,866 physically challenged persons, 22,857 pregnant women, 36,635 under 5 children, and 659 sickle cell patients.

The enrollment process has notably covered more women, with 37,661 males and 57,086 females respectively.

The BHCPF program has been executing for four to five years, and has accredited over 170 healthcare facilities across 25 local governments, except for three due to insecurity.

The Borno State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (BOSCHMA) is implementing the BHCPF program, and has reviewed its annual performance, highlighting achievements, challenges, and goals for 2025.

BOSCHMA has placed a strong emphasis on maternal and child health, to tackle mortality rates and improve child delivery.

Other focus areas of BOSCHMA include supporting physically challenged persons, the elderly, and those with HIV Aids and special diseases.

In 2025, BOSCHMA plans to expand its coverage by implementing formal sector programs, and has called on philanthropists to support the enrollment of more poor people into the health insurance scheme.

With less than 4% of the Borno State population currently covered, BOSCHMA is exploring strategies to enroll more individuals, including government officials, into various schemes.

The importance of planning for healthcare eventualities has been stressed by BOSCHMA, and schemes like the State Contributory health scheme are crucial in providing affordable services.

BOSCHMA is working to increase funding, including equity funding and counterpart funding, to support its efforts and enroll more people into the healthcare program.
