The Borno State branch of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) recently conducted an advocacy visit to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 7 Division at Maimalari Barracks.
The visit aimed to strengthen military-civil relationships in the fight against terrorism and address the critical issue of Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
According to Sumaiya Haruna Mari, publicity secretary of FIDA, the initiative seeks to foster collaboration between the military and civil society in tackling security challenges and protecting vulnerable populations.
Led by Dr Zara Umar Yakub the chairperson, the delegation expressed appreciation for the military's resilience and efforts in countering insurgency and ensuring citizen safety.
Dr Zara acknowledged the armed forces' tremendous work and offered encouragement in the ongoing fight against terrorism in the state.
Central to FIDA's mandate, the visit also focused on establishing a partnership to address GBV through legal awareness campaigns, counseling services, and pro bono legal representation for victims.

At the conclusion of the visit, the GOC presented a commemorative plaque to the FIDA Borno branch as a symbol of appreciation and partnership.
Conflict Reporting is dangerous and risky. Our reporters constantly face life-threatening challenges, sometimes surviving ambushes, kidnap attempts and attacks by the whiskers as they travel and go into communities to get authentic and firsthand information. But we dare it every day, nonetheless, in order to keep you informed of the true situation of the victims, the trends in the conflicts and ultimately help in peace building processes. But these come at huge cost to us. We are therefore appealing to you to help our cause by donating to us through any of the following means. You can also donate working tools, which are even more primary to our work. We thank you sincerely as you help our cause.
