The Borno State Government and the Federal Government have met to discuss the modalities for rehabilitating and reconstructing the Alau Dam, following the approval of funds by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Professor Joseph Utsev, minister of water resources and sanitation, informed the delegation that the Interministerial Technical Committee, which he chairs, has assessed 35 dams and presented its interim report, with the final report to be presented to the council soon.
The work on the Alau Dam is expected to be completed within 24 months, with the first component commencing this month and ending in July, and the second phase starting in October.
Professor Utsev, expressed hope that the completed dam would boost irrigation farming in Borno State and improve hydropower generation in the North East, and also appealed to the Borno State Government to ensure adequate security provision at the project site.
The leader of the Borno State Government delegation, Engr Tijani Goni, commissioner for water resources in Borno, appreciated the minister, for taking the issue as his personal project and assured him that the state government would provide adequate security and cooperate with the contractor to ensure timely completion.
Conflict Reporting is dangerous and risky. Our reporters constantly face life-threatening challenges, sometimes surviving ambushes, kidnap attempts and attacks by the whiskers as they travel and go into communities to get authentic and firsthand information. But we dare it every day, nonetheless, in order to keep you informed of the true situation of the victims, the trends in the conflicts and ultimately help in peace building processes. But these come at huge cost to us. We are therefore appealing to you to help our cause by donating to us through any of the following means. You can also donate working tools, which are even more primary to our work. We thank you sincerely as you help our cause.
