At least 14 people were killed after Boko Haram terrorists attacked Kwaple, a village 5 kilometres from Chibok in Borno State.
Similarly, many others have gone missing after the attack.
The terrorists struck around 6 p.m. on Monday, targeting villagers gathered for the funeral rites of a community member.
Sources who spoke to this reporter said the terrorists entered the village and fired on mourners.
A resident confirmed that 14 bodies were recovered Tuesday morning.
The source also said an unconfirmed number of residents are still missing.
'They burned the EYN church and houses,' the source said.
Hon. Modu Mustapha, Chairman of Chibok Local Government Area, also confirmed the incident.
'The terrorists attacked during a funeral, a lot of people were killed,' he stated.
The attack follows an explosion caused by a bomb planted by the terrorists in a vehicle carrying passengers, which killed 20 people.
Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum recently called for intensification of military operations in areas like the Timbuktu Triangle and Mandara Mountains to stop terrorists from regrouping.
In his speech following a visit to the state, Mohamamed Abubakar Badaru, Nigeria's defence minister, said the visit was aimed at assessing the situation and identifying ways to stop the attacks.
Conflict Reporting is dangerous and risky. Our reporters constantly face life-threatening challenges, sometimes surviving ambushes, kidnap attempts and attacks by the whiskers as they travel and go into communities to get authentic and firsthand information. But we dare it every day, nonetheless, in order to keep you informed of the true situation of the victims, the trends in the conflicts and ultimately help in peace building processes. But these come at huge cost to us. We are therefore appealing to you to help our cause by donating to us through any of the following means. You can also donate working tools, which are even more primary to our work. We thank you sincerely as you help our cause.
