Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have killed nine Boko Haram terrorists and recovered more than N5 million during separate counter-terrorism operations in Magumeri and Gajiram areas of Borno State.
According to military sources, the operations were conducted on October 10 following intelligence reports about terrorist movements around Goni Dunari in Magumeri Local Government Area.
The insurgents, reportedly moving in two vehicles with 24 fighters on foot, were said to be setting houses on fire and threatening residents in the area.
Our source said troops deployed to the location engaged the fighters in a pursuit that covered about 92km.
During the encounter, five terrorists were killed, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
Items recovered included one AK-47 rifle, five magazines, 31 rounds of ammunition, a mobile phone, and a dagger.
The military also confirmed that there were no casualties or equipment losses on the part of its personnel.
In a related operation along the Gajiram–Bolori–Mile 40–Gajiganna axis, troops on motorcycles clashed with another group of Boko Haram fighters near Zundur village.
During the encounter, four terrorists were killed, and two abducted men — identified as Modu Kinnami, 55, and Bukar, 57, both from Guzamala — were rescued.
Recovered items from the second operation included a blue pickup truck, two Tecno phones, a jerrycan containing 30 litres of petrol, and N4.35 million in cash, part of which was believed to be ransom money.
Military sources said preliminary findings indicated the terrorists had demanded N2 million and two phones for the release of a kidnapped person.
Security operations are ongoing in the area as troops continue efforts to deny the insurgents freedom of movement and restore stability across the North East.
Conflict Reporting is dangerous and risky. Our reporters constantly face life-threatening challenges, sometimes surviving ambushes, kidnap attempts and attacks by the whiskers as they travel and go into communities to get authentic and firsthand information. But we dare it every day, nonetheless, in order to keep you informed of the true situation of the victims, the trends in the conflicts and ultimately help in peace building processes. But these come at huge cost to us. We are therefore appealing to you to help our cause by donating to us through any of the following means.
