The Kano State Information Technology Development Agency has secured $50,000 in cloud credits for local startups through a partnership with CloudPlexo, an Amazon AWS partner.

The support will benefit the top 10 startups from the HEAT Hackathon 2025, held on October 11 at the E-Health Africa Auditorium in Kano.

The hackathon, part of the state’s Digital Transformation Agenda, drew 36 teams and over 150 participants, who developed tech-based solutions for Health, Education, Agriculture, and Transportation sectors.

The event, held on Saturday at the E-Health Africa Auditorium in Kano, was organised under the state’s Digital Transformation Agenda.

According to a statement from Sunusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, spokesperson to Governor Abba Yusuf, the initiative is part of the administration’s broader strategy to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment through technology.

The hackathon brought together 36 teams and over 150 participants, who developed technology-based solutions addressing challenges in Health, Education, Agriculture, and Transportation — the HEAT sectors.

KASITDA Director-General, Dr Bashir Muzakkari, who represented the governor at the event, described the initiative as a step toward making Kano a regional technology hub.

In addition to the cloud credits, participating startups received further assistance from partners including All for Tech.

They provide secure VPN access, and Enovate Lab, which offer post-event mentorship in business development and investment readiness.

Our reporters constantly face life-threatening challenges, sometimes surviving ambushes, kidnap attempts and attacks by the whiskers as they travel and go into communities to get authentic and firsthand information. But we dare it every day, nonetheless, in order to keep you informed of the true situation of the victims, the trends in the conflicts and ultimately help in peace building processes. But these come at huge cost to us. We are therefore appealing to you to help our cause by donating to us through any of the following means.
