Calm has returned to Maiduguri Government Girls College after a panic incident on Monday sent students fleeing the school premises over suspected unusual movements within the compound.
The scare began when some students claimed to have seen individuals dressed in black clothing and wearing masks inside the school.
The sighting triggered fear among the girls, prompting many to run out of the school in confusion.
One of the students who spoke said they became frightened after noticing 'people in black clothes covering their faces with masks,' leading them to believe an attack might be imminent.
Dauda Iliya spokesman of the Borno State Governor has earlier debunked a rumored report circulating on social media alleging that the school was under attack.
He said, 'A panic incident occurred this evening at the Government Girls College in Maiduguri.
'In response, security agencies were immediately deployed and have successfully restored order.
'To oversee the situation, a government delegation comprising the Commissioner of Education, the Chief Adviser on Sustainable Development, and the Special Adviser on Media is currently present at the school.
'The public is hereby advised to disregard any false information,' the Governor's spokesman added.
ACP Nahum Kenneth Daso, spokesman of the Borno State Police Command, also dismissed fears of an attack by saying, 'Please disregard misinformation.
When this reporter visited the school, several parents had already gathered at the gate, anxious to pick up their children following fake alarm.
Authorities have urged parents and residents to remain calm while security personnel continue to monitor the situation.

But we dare it every day, nonetheless, in order to keep you informed of the true situation of the victims, the trends in the conflicts and ultimately help in peace building processes. But these come at huge cost to us. We are therefore appealing to you to help our cause by donating to us through any of the following means.
