Five police officers have been killed by suspected Fulani youth in Sabon Sara village, Darazo Local Government Area.
According to a statement on Sunday, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, police spokesman in Bauchi, the incident occurred on November 22 at about 11:30 AM when a combined tactical team was conducting an intelligence-led visibility patrol aimed at preventing farmer–herder clashes in the area.
The patrol team, comprising operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), 10 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Bauchi, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU), and the State Intelligence Department (SID), came under sudden gunfire during the operation.
Wakil said the officers launched a counter-response and neutralised a number of the attackers during the gun duel.
Despite their efforts, the ambush resulted in the loss of five personnel.
Those killed were identified as DSP Ahmad Muhammad (SID), ASP Mustapha Muhammad (10 PMF), Inspector Amarhel Yunusa (10 PMF), Inspector Idris Ahmed (10 PMF), and Corporal Isah Muazu (AKU).
Two officers—Inspector Isah Musa and Inspector Yusuf Gambo, both of the SID—sustained injuries and were immediately evacuated for treatment.
Upon receiving the distress report, the Divisional Police Officer for Darazo, SP Auwalu Ilu, led a reinforcement team to the scene, where the injured and deceased officers were recovered and taken to the General Hospital Darazo.
The remains of the fallen officers have been deposited at the morgue.
Commissioner of Police CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu later visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment and to commiserate with the families of the victims.
He condemned the attack and assured that a full-scale manhunt has been launched to arrest the perpetrators.
The CP reaffirmed his command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, noting that the fight against criminal elements remains challenging but resolute.
'We shall remain fierce, tireless, and relentless in fulfilling our constitutional mandate,' he said.
He urged residents to remain calm as efforts intensify to bring the attackers to justice.

Our reporters constantly face life-threatening challenges, sometimes surviving ambushes, kidnap attempts and attacks by the whiskers as they travel and go into communities to get authentic and firsthand information. But we dare it every day, nonetheless, in order to keep you informed of the true situation of the victims, the trends in the conflicts and ultimately help in peace building processes. But these come at huge cost to us. We are therefore appealing to you to help our cause by donating to us through any of the following means.
