One Forest Guard has been killed while a Nigerian Army lieutenant has been declared missing following a Boko Haram attack on Kawuri community in Kunduga Local Government Area of Borno State.

A security source who confirmed the incident to YERWA EXPRESS NEWS said the attack occurred at about 10:40 p.m. on Thursday.

According to the source, the terrorists stormed the area in large numbers, armed with sophisticated weapons, including anti-aircraft guns, and overran a Nigerian Army formation stationed in the community.

The assault reportedly led to the disappearance of the officer in the encounter.

The source added that a Forest Guard, identified as one of the rangers recently inducted by the Federal Government to support the Nigerian military in the fight against insurgency, was killed.

'They also set parts of the military base on fire before withdrawing to the surrounding hills,' the source said.

In recent days, Boko Haram fighters have intensified attacks across parts of Borno State, allegedly deploying advanced weaponry, including fighter drones.

The insurgents were also reported to have attacked Sabon Gari recently, where they allegedly opened sporadic fire with sophisticated weapons, resulting in casualties among military personnel and residents.

Efforts to obtain official confirmation from military authorities were ongoing as of the time of filing this report.
