Nigerian troops, working in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have repelled a night attack by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists targeting Konduga Local Government Area and Dalori Gari in Borno State.
The insurgents reportedly advanced from areas around Konduga, a town located a few kilometres from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, before attempting to push toward Dalori Gari on the outskirts of the city.
YERWS EXPRESS NEWS has earlier reported that residents of Konduga were thrown into panic after multiple gunshots were heard from different directions late at night.
According to local sources, the sound of gunfire later spread toward Dalori Gari, triggering fear and confusion among residents in nearby communities.
A military source who confirmed the incident said troops successfully prevented the attackers from gaining access to the town.
'Yes, some of the terrorists advanced toward the Dalori Gari military formation, but they were denied access to the town,' the source told this reporter.
According to the source, the insurgents set a security sandbag position ablaze while retreating from the area.
'They only set a security sandbag post on fire as they retreated.
Military fighter jets and ground troops are currently exploiting the surrounding areas,' the source added.
The military assured residents that the situation has been brought under control and urged the public to remain calm while security forces continue clearance operations in the area.
Authorities say troops remain on high alert to prevent further attempts by the insurgents to infiltrate communities around Maiduguri.
Conflict Reporting is dangerous and risky. Our reporters constantly face life-threatening challenges, sometimes surviving ambushes, kidnap attempts and attacks by the whiskers as they travel and go into communities to get authentic and firsthand information. But we dare it every day, nonetheless, in order to keep you informed of the true situation of the victims, the trends in the conflicts and ultimately help in peace building processes. But these come at huge cost to us. We are therefore appealing to you to help our cause by donating to us through any of the following means. You can also donate working tools, which are even more primary to our work. We thank you sincerely as you help our cause.
