The United States Embassy Abuja has issued a security alert over a high potential for protests in Abuja.
The embassy said the demonstrations may be linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
It noted that previous protests by some groups resulted in violent clashes with Nigerian security forces.
The mission strongly advised U.S. citizens in Abuja to remain in their residences throughout Wednesday.
Americans were urged to avoid protest areas and large crowds.
The embassy advised citizens to monitor local media for updates and remain aware of their surroundings.
It also called on individuals to review personal security plans, keep mobile phones charged, and carry proper identification.
The advisory encouraged heightened alertness in public places including shopping centers, cinemas and places of worship.
Citizens were told to familiarize themselves with emergency exits when entering buildings and to vary travel routes and times to reduce predictability.
The embassy confirmed that its consular section in Abuja and the United States Consulate General Lagos remain open.
It directed Americans to monitor its official website for further updates and to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program for real-time security notifications.
The alert underscores growing concern over possible spillover tensions linked to the international crisis.
Conflict Reporting is dangerous and risky. Our reporters constantly face life-threatening challenges, sometimes surviving ambushes, kidnap attempts and attacks by the whiskers as they travel and go into communities to get authentic and firsthand information. But we dare it every day, nonetheless, in order to keep you informed of the true situation of the victims, the trends in the conflicts and ultimately help in peace building processes. But these come at huge cost to us. We are therefore appealing to you to help our cause by donating to us through any of the following means. You can also donate working tools, which are even more primary to our work. We thank you sincerely as you help our cause.
